A Weekend in Denver

A few weeks ago, we spent a weekend in Denver for our friends’ wedding. Between wedding events, catching up with friends and family, and our own exploring, we did a lot of good eating. The food scene in Denver is pretty intense, so if you’re planning a visit, add these restaurants to your must-try list:

Brunch: We managed to have breakfast/brunch three times, even though we were only there for four days! They were all great, but I have to give a shout out to Old Major. I chose this one for a few friends and was super nervous because one of them is an amazing chef and has understandably high standards for food. We all loved it, especially the chicken and waffles, and the ambiance is great too. Also really enjoyed breakfast with friends at Duo and a pre-airport bite at The Universal.

Lunch: One of the afternoons, we met up with my husband’s aunt for lunch at Olive and Finch. They serve breakfast all day, in addition to a great lineup of sandwiches and salads, so there’s bound to be something for everyone.

Dinner: The rehearsal dinner was at The Nickel Restaurant (inside Hotel Teatro downtown), and although we had custom selections, it all came from their regular menu…and it was all amazing. Their food is really interesting, in a good way, and I especially loved the aged gouda grits. The space is also really cool, and I would definitely want to check out the rest of the hotel another time.

The second night, we had drinks with the bride and groom-to-be, and then were on our own for dinner. We knew this ahead of time, so being the planner that I am, I had emailed our group of friends with restaurant options before we got there and we decided on Ignite. The place was packed, and for good reason. Although their menu isn’t huge, they definitely put a spin on the classics, and there are plenty of choices. We had a vegan in our group, and he had no problem finding something. The cocktail selection was pretty great too, and they also had no problem splitting up our bill, which is always a nice surprise.

Dessert: I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t research the dessert scene. We only made it to one spot, Nuggs Ice Cream, but it was super tasty and worth a stop. Bonus: Our very creative friends created a super cute donut wall for their wedding reception, and the Voodoo Donuts certainly lived up to expectations.

I was only able to snap pictures of one outfit that I wore on our trip, but I shared a couple more on Instagram. Here they are with details, in case you missed them:
