Behind the Blog

Little Sam

When I saw that the topic for this week’s IFB Project was “why did you start your blog?” I knew it was one I had to get in on. I thought about starting a style blog for a long time before I actually took the plunge. I have always loved fashion, especially putting together outfits (see the killer look above), but I didn’t believe in myself enough to put my style perspective out there. However, after more than three years of blogging about life, relationships, career, and a variety of other topics, I decided it was time to move my online presence in a different direction.

This blog is a creative outlet. It makes me smile and it keeps me sane. I’m not the kind of girl you would see in a fashion magazine or on a runway, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t clothes out there for me. One of my favorite things about blogging is the community. I love being inspired by other bloggers, connecting with people on Twitter, and meeting online friends in real life. It’s important for me to be authentic and genuine. Sometimes I get really excited about something, and I think it might come off as disingenuous to some people, but that’s just how I am when I’m passionate. When I re-launched this blog last week and I tweeted about being “jumping up and down excited,” that was legit. I spend most mornings leaving comments on my favorite outfit posts because I truly enjoy showing other bloggers love.

Another reason I started this blog was because of my day job. For the past two and a half years, I’ve been working in the development department of a non-profit. While I truly believe in the mission and the work that we do, the work that I have been doing is not ideal. Blogging has given me a place to let my creativity and imagination run free. I guess this is as good a time as any to share that next week I will be starting a new job!! It’s an internal move to a different part of the umbrella organization I work for, but my new title will be Communications Specialist. As a journalism major in college, and an avid social media user/nerd, this is much more up my alley, and I couldn’t be more excited!

This blog won’t be going anywhere. In fact, the new name and makeover are just the beginning of my exciting plans for 2013! Thank you so much for reading, and make sure you re-subscribed after the name change (RSS or Bloglovin’). Social links are in the sidebar. Don’t be afraid to say hi!

Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your new job! I have not yet started a blog, but have been following style blogs for some time now. I appreciate this piece, because I want to start my blog for some of the same reasons you’ve launched yours! Again, thank you for sharing.
