Last Friday, I had the amazing opportunity to attend a special blogger breakfast at Birchbox. If you don’t know, Birchbox is a beauty sample subscription service that sends monthly boxes of happiness. Seriously though, they are a fantastic company with an inspiring start-up story, and their service is a great way to find out about new products (shameless affiliate link). I’m a part of their Birchbloggers network, which enables me to participate in various promotions and giveaways. Last week, I was one of twelve bloggers chosen to have breakfast at Birchbox HQ with beauty guru and makeup artist, Alison Raffaele.
A former assistant to Bobbi Brown, Alison now has her own line of cosmetics. She was there to tell us all about her journey and let us sample her foundation and concealer line. Alison was super friendly, funny, and obviously cares a lot about her products. Everything is free of parabens, talc, fragrance, mineral oil and gluten, and the goal of Alison’s line is not perfection, but transforming and enhancing natural beauty. A few key takeaways and tips:
- Best lesson from Bobbi: Keep it simple. Don’t try too hard with your makeup and make sure to be age appropriate.
- When looking for the right shade of foundation, you want to match your face to your body, not your neck. Your neck is in shadow, so it’s not going to be a uniform shade.
- The correct order of product application is foundation, then concealer, then powder.
At breakfast, each blogger got to talk to Alison about their skin issues, and she matched us with the correct shade of foundation and concealer from her line. We were given one of each to take home, in addition to a fabulous Birchbox goody bag. One of the items in the bag was a set of RUFFIAN nail polishes. Because I already have a cabinet full of polish, I wanted to pass these pretties on to one of you. Be sure to enter below!
Breakfast at Birchbox was a great experience, and I was so honored to be chosen. Looking forward to many more beauty chats with the fabulous ladies at Bb!
What a cool experience!
