Necklace Obsession

If you scroll through my outfit posts, you’ll see that I love jewelry. In recent years, I’ve developed a particular affinity for statement necklaces, and have built up quite a collection. But, earrings were my first love, from the moment I got my ears pierced at age ten. Not long after that, my mom and I found the perfect jewelry holder and we both use them to this day. As I was researching this post, I discovered that they have been discontinued, but I definitely recommend checking them out anyway (especially since they are trying to get rid of their remaining stock).

I’ve always been a fan of rings too, but I’m not one to change my rings with my outfits. When I put a ring on my finger, it’s there for a long time. My rings have improved in beauty and quality over the years. I definitely had a while in middle school where my fingers were turning green. These days, I wear four rings on a daily basis: my engagement ring and wedding band, an S ring from gorjana, and a beautiful blue stone ring that was passed down to me from my mom. This ring was my maternal great grandmother’s engagement ring setting, and I am the fourth generation wearing it. I’ve gotten many compliments on it, and I love the antique look it has and the connection I feel to the amazing women who wore it before me.

Sam's Rings

My jewelry collection is a combination of old and new. I love using jewelry to add pop or sparkle to an outfit, and I love the story it tells. A lot of my jewelry comes from big name retailers like Bauble Bar and Forever 21, but it’s also important to me to support local artists. With that in mind, I’m giving one of you the opportunity to add to your jewelry collection. Natalie, from the Brooklyn-based Etsy shop, Etymology, is partnering with me to give away one piece from her collection…winner’s choice! I love it all, so good luck choosing!

My favorite piece of jewelry is a piece I don’t even own; it’s my mother’s long strand of pearls. It is a simple, 24″ strand that strikes the perfect balance of elegance and statement and it seems to match everything I pair it with. Every time I go to visit, I come up with an excuse to wear them.

It took me longer than most to become a jewelry wearer and I still sometimes shy away from statement pieces (although your blog has helped me learn how to rock them!) My mom got me a pair of handcrafted sterling silver earrings in Sedona and they just go with everything. Plus, I love knowing that real hands molded them into something beautiful.

  3. While my engagement ring is by far my most treasured jewelry possession, I have many other pieces that I truly love. This includes a gold heart necklace that I bought on a whim for less than $20 in Paris. A piece I love from what I believe is the most romantic city in the world; can’t do better than that! I just feel more romantic wearing it.

I have a few pieces that I love. My favorite piece of jewelry is a sterling silver ring I made myself, during high school, using lost wax casting. It’s a swirly quarter music note that sits sideways on the band. I wear it every day! I also love a piece of jewelry that was my great grand mother’s and then my mother’s and now I wear it: it’s a tie made out of pearls. It’s so unique and funky, and I love that it belonged to so many women in my family. Lastly, I have a very simple silver heart necklace that my grandparents gave me, and it always reminds me of my grandfather who passed a few years ago. I love that ring that was your maternal grandmother’s; anything with an antique setting just captivates me.

My favorite piece of jewelry right now is my grandfather’s wedding ring. I don’t like rings, but I never take this one off!
