I’m back in New York after a fabulous girls weekend in Texas. Going to Texas in the summer was definitely ambitious, but when you spend most of your time poolside, it’s totally bearable. Our resort was near Austin, and I was the only one who had never been there, so on Saturday night we took a trip into the city for dinner and drinks. We had some amazing Tex-Mex and then checked out a couple of bars. Since it was still super hot at night, I opted for shorts and a one-shoulder top in the prettiest island floral print. I love that block heels are in style because they’re cute AND comfortable. Also had to add a pair of statement earrings! PS Sorry these pics are so dark…we snapped these in a hurry on our way out!
This weekend was a reminder of just how lucky I am in the friend department. I’ve never been in the popular crowd, and I’ve always preferred to have a few close friends instead of more friends overall. What I’ve learned as an adult is that it doesn’t necessarily matter how long you’ve known someone. It’s more important to find people who truly know you, faults and all, and are there for you no matter what. The three friends I was with this weekend are people I met as co-workers about five years ago. It’s crazy to think that none of them were at my wedding, and yet I feel like I’ve known them all forever and can’t imagine my life without them. We laugh a lot when we’re together, catch up on the lives of mutual friends, and tell stories from the past. Sometimes we talk about ridiculous things, sometimes serious subjects. We make friends with waiters, drink champagne in our PJs, and we always sing along to the radio in the car.
If you have a lot of childhood and college friends who are still a big part of your life, count yourself lucky, but keep your heart open to knew friendships and remember that sometimes people don’t come your life until you need them.
