How to Wear OTK Boots If You’re Petite

OTK boots

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that we spent part of the weekend in Baltimore for our friend’s wedding. We got there early on Friday morning and had time to explore before we could check into our hotel. That night, we had a little date night before we met up with the group for drinks. I’ve wanted to try a pair of slouchy over-the-knee (OTK) boots for a while now, but I wasn’t sure I could pull it off as a petite woman. I found this pair at DSW, and decided to give the whole mini skirt and tall boots thing a chance. To balance out the sexy vibes, I opted for a more modest sweater, and stuck to neutrals (aside from my bag). A little lesson about boots like these: make sure you tighten the tie at the top, or you’ll be hiking them up all night. That said, I really like them, and I think the fact that you can still see some skin helps prevent my legs from looking too stumpy and short. I also have to mention that this suede wrap skirt is incredibly soft and super flattering too!

On a more serious note, I know we’ve all seen a lot of people adding their voices to the #MeToo campaign drawing much-needed attention to the prevalence of sexual harassment and sexual assault. So many brave women have shared their stories and I have so much respect for them. I haven’t chimed in because I’m very fortunate to have only rarely experienced unwanted attention. But, I’ve definitely been thinking a lot about what has become acceptable in our society, and I’m more aware of what’s going on around me. The night I wore this outfit, my husband and I had to walk a bit to get to the restaurant. I half jokingly asked him how many men he thought would check me out on our way there, and unfortunately, we lost count. I was walking with my husband, holding his hand, in a not particularly provocative outfit, and yet a number of men thought it was okay to look me up and down like a piece of meat.  I know so many women have experienced much worse, and I’m thankful that my negative experiences are few and far between. If nothing else, I hope that the more people who speak up, the more people will take a step back and think about what they want to teach the next generation about how to treat one another.

Being 5’2″ I was so hesitant about over the knee boots, but I really love them! They are great the way you’ve paired them, as a nice way to offset a shorter skirt.

  2. Cute boots! I’m quite tall and love wearing these, my struggle is finding some long enough that they actually go over my knee!
