Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Closet

When it comes time to switching over my wardrobe between seasons, I always try to go through and get rid of some things. This year, I felt like I was buying a lot of new things for spring because I was totally over winter (and spring things are SO pretty!), so it was especially important to make sure I did some spring cleaning in my closet.

My first step is to look through my decidedly “winter” things and pull out the ones that I didn’t wear at all this year. Then I think about why I didn’t wear them. Was it because they don’t fit? I don’t like them anymore? I forgot I have them? Generally, only things that I still like, still fit and just forgot that I owned get to stay, and that makes room for my new purchases.

I also got a peek recently at a friend’s closet who lives in the same apartment line in our building. She had her shoes on the shelves where I had been keeping bags and accessories, so I made the swap too. I really like how it looks and I feel like I have better access to the shoes I wear the most.

Spring Cleaning

Another spring cleaning challenge is the underwear drawer. We all have our favorite pairs of panties and our go-to bras, but the truth is that after a while, they really need to go. Undies are easy (hello, holes!), but it can be hard to know with bras. Fortunately, THIRDLOVE put together a handy guide for knowing when it’s time to say goodbye to your favorite bra:

I haven’t tried their bras yet, but once I get rid of a couple of my old ones, I will definitely be checking them out! THIRDLOVE focuses on fit and comfort for all shapes and sizes, and they even let you try one of their bras for free before you commit. It can be a little scary to invest in a bra, but the truth is that we wear them so much, they’re totally worth it. (PS If you just realized you need a new bra ASAP, use code TLSPRING10 for 10% off at THIRDLOVE!)

The last step to spring cleaning your closet is to figure what it still in good shape and find a place to donate it. Whether you choose a thrift shop benefiting a good cause or a homeless shelter, something good can come from your castoffs.

What do you do to spring clean your closet? I would love to hear your tips!
