What to Wear to Work

work outfit ideas

Getting dressed for work every day can get pretty old. As much as I love fashion, there are definitely some days I wish I could just stay in my PJs. I try to be as creative as I can to keep things interesting, but I’ve been reminding myself that there’s nothing wrong with keep things simple every once in a while too. An easy combination to wear to work in the winter is a sweater and a skirt. I love midi skirts because they’re an office-appropriate length and keep you warm too. If you’re pear-shaped like me, make sure the skirt fits well and tuck in your top to emphasize your waist.

While we’re on the subject of work, I want to talk about making friends. Whether you live in a small town or a big city, it can be hard to make new friends as an adult. Some people are lucky enough to still be close with friends from childhood or college, but sometimes people change and friends grow apart. But, regardless of how many friends you have and how long you’ve known them, it’s always nice to bring new people into your circle. We spend so much time at work that at least having someone to eat lunch or take a walk outside with is super important for our mental health and happiness. If you’re fortunate enough to really connect with someone beyond that, and like them so much you want to spend time with them outside of work, count your blessings. I know from experience how amazing these friendships can be.

I moved when I was 16 and lost touch with a lot of childhood friends. In college, I dated my now husband long distance for three years, which was obviously a good decision, but definitely affected the strength of my friendships. I’m incredibly grateful for longtime friends from summer camp and different programs I’ve participated in over the years, but many of my closest friends are people I met at work. Although I may not have known them as long, we know each other incredibly well, and they have been there for me through some of the most difficult times in my life. It’s easy to go to the office, do your work, and go home, but don’t discount the friendship potential of the people you see every day. Special shoutout to Elena, Leah, Leslie, Mackenzie, Dena and Ally, all co-workers turned friends who I can’t imagine my life without.

I’ve never really worked anywhere with people my age, and while friendly with my coworkers at the time, after they, or I left the job, I never spoke with any of them again. I do wholeheartedly agree it’s tough to make new friends. I’ve been happy to be able to attend a lot of events with other local bloggers lately, secretly hoping that I will meet someone who could become a friend. (though mostly people just seem to want to ‘network’).
