Bikini Body

I have never been skinny. There were times when I was in really good shape, when my stomach was flat and my muscles were toned. But, as I’ve gotten older, it’s been harder to maintain my weight and find the right balance. I belong to a gym and I go two to three times a week. Living in NYC and having a dog means I walk a good deal too. But, I love food. I’m a sucker for a fruity cocktail and I like to say that all of my teeth are sweet teeth. So, leading up to our vacation, I was a little nervous about how I would look in a bathing suit. I’ve become more confident in my body, no matter what size it may be at any given time, but even the most self-certain people have their doubts. I hate the term “bikini body,” but I love to turn it around and say that EVERY body is a bikini body. That’s something that I truly believe, and I don’t think your size or shape should dictate what you can or should wear.

For this trip, I brought a combination of bikinis and one-pieces. You can see the rest of them on Instagram, but I really wanted to share this flattering blush bikini from Aerie, a brand that is truly championing the body positive movement. Aerie believes in real women, un-retouched, and they want every woman to love herself and her body. I recently had the opportunity to meet model and activist, Iskra Lawrence, one of Aerie’s role models, and a role model of mine as well. Iskra rocks her curves with confidence and she doesn’t let anyone tell her what to wear! She’s all about loving your body and taking care of it, inside and out, and it’s been very inspiring to follow her journey. So, with that in mind, these are my un-retouched photos, my bikini body…sunburn and all! It’s pretty scary to do a photoshoot on the beach, but I want all of my fellow curvy girls to know that bikinis are for you too!
