I grew up a short drive from the ocean, and the beach has always been my happy place. Give me a good book and a light breeze, and I’m content to sit with my toes in the sand for hours. The only challenge is finding a bathing suit that makes me feel beautiful and confident and doesn’t mess up my zen beach vibes. I’ve got curves, and while I totally support rocking a tiny bikini no matter your size, I just wasn’t feeling the two-piece this year. So, I brought a couple of retro one-pieces with me to Maine, designed to accentuate the right areas and play down the rest. I think the one-piece totally gets a bad rap, and although it made me a little self-conscious to stand on the beach and take these photos, I wanted to show you just how fab the right suit can be. (photo cred to my bestie, Elena)
When I went to the rewardStyle Fashion Week party last fall, I got a card for a free swimsuit from a funky little brand called Zinke. It looks like they’re no longer in business, so I’m so glad I got this vibrant peplum one-piece before they shut their doors. The “peplum” piece is removable, and even without it, the lines of this suit are super flattering. Although this color isn’t available anymore, you can still find other variations of the suit, and I’ve linked to them below. There are actually a ton of options for one-piece suits that are flattering and fun, so don’t assume that they’re only for middle aged women, okay?
Sunnies: J.Crew Factory
