We thought we knew what we were getting ourselves into when we decided to go to Palm Springs in August, but I don’t think we were fully prepared for the heat. Obviously, we wouldn’t have planned a trip to the desert in the summer if we didn’t already have a wedding in the area, but we were so close that it was hard to pass up. Ordinarily, posing in public in a bikini is a bit intimidating, especially for those of us with curves…but when it’s over 100 degrees, you’re just trying to get through it so you can jump in the pool! I’m not making the most attractive faces in most of these photos, but I assure you that has nothing to do with this sexy red bikini, which I absolutely love.
Even a couple of years ago, I never would have dared to wear something this revealing, but I think I totally pulled it off! Red is such a power color (I have another red outfit from the trip which I’ll share soon), and I always forget how fabulous it makes me feel. The lace up details on this bikini are so fun, but it doesn’t feel skimpy, which is really important. I love how this suit fit right in at our colorful hotel too!
By the way, these photos are totally un-retouched, so every wrinkle, roll and bead of sweat is totally legit. Why do I put these photos out there like this? Because I know there are so many women who think they can’t wear a bikini and are afraid to even try one on in the privacy of a dressing room. Until recently, we didn’t see curvy women modeling bathing suits on runways, websites, or in ads. There’s a lot more body diversity now, but even when you click through to shop this suit (linked at the bottom of this post), you’ll only see tiny waists and flat tummies. Do I look perfect in this bikini? No…but perfect is boring. I felt good and I rocked it, and when you give off those vibes, people see you differently. You just have to start off with a little bit of confidence, and if all else fails, fake it ’til ya make it!
